Callaway Golf Company Signs British Open Winner Paul Lawrie To Endorsement Contract

CARLSBAD, Calif., April 13, 2000 -– Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) announced today that British Open Champion Paul Lawrie has joined the Company as a Callaway Golf Staff Professional. Lawrie, who won the 1999 British Open at Carnoustie and was a member of the 1999 European Ryder Cup team, is playing on the PGA Tour this year after eight seasons on the PGA European Tour.

Under the terms of the endorsement agreement, Lawrie will play Callaway Golf metal woods and irons, use an Odyssey® putter, carry a Callaway Golf bag and wear the Callaway Golf logo on his hat and shirt. At last week’s Masters Tournament, Lawrie carried a Callaway Golf bag and used a Great Big Bertha® Hawk Eye® Titanium Driver, Big Bertha® Steelhead Plus™ 3-wood and 7-wood, Steelhead™ X-14™ Irons and an Odyssey White Hot™ 1 Putter. Lawrie has already posted three top-10 finishes in the U.S. this year.

Lawrie, 31, has used Callaway Golf equipment for some time. In his historic playoff victory in last year’s British Open at Carnoustie, Lawrie used a Great Big Bertha Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Steelhead 3-wood and an Odyssey TriForce™ 1 Putter. The dramatic comeback victory was the first by a Scotsman on Scottish soil since Tommy Armour in 1931.
