CARLSBAD, CA., February 14, 2000 – Callaway Golf (NYSE:ELY) Staff Professional Michael Campbell continued his dominant play down under with a four-stroke victory at the Ericsson Masters in Melbourne, Australia. The 30-year-old New Zealander has now won four times in as many months and is atop the Order of Merit on both the PGA European and PGA Australasian tours.
At the Ericsson Masters, Campbell battled blustery winds to finish at 10-under-par 282 for his third Australasian Tour win in the last four weeks. “The last few months have been incredible,” said Campbell, who won the Johnnie Walker Classic last November and the New Zealand Open and Heineken Classic in recent weeks. “I feel at ease with golf. I find golf easy. I feel like I am ready to take on the best in the world.”
Campbell used 12 Callaway Golf® clubs in his latest victory, including a Great Big Bertha® Hawk Eye® Titanium Driver, Big Berth® Steelhead™ 3-wood, Big Bertha X-12® Irons and an Odyssey® Dual Force® Putter. Campbell’s stellar play has lifted him to 65th in the World Rankings, making him a likely participant in the upcoming World Match Play Championship.
Callaway Golf Staff Professional Kyi Hla Han was also in the news this weekend, as he collected the top two Asian PGA Davidoff Tour awards for his play last year. Han accepted the 1999 Asian PGA Player of the Year Award and the Davidoff Order of Merit title at an awards ceremony in Malaysia. The 39-year-old Myanmar native won the last year’s Volvo China Open and set an Asian PGA Tour record for money won in a single season.
