Callaway Golf Driver Models #1 and #2 on the PGA European Tour

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2004-- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) had another big weekend on the world golf stage, with the new ERC(R) Fusion(R) Driver and Great Big Bertha(R) II Drivers playing a major role for winners on the PGA European, LPGA and Nationwide Tours. And for the second time this month, Callaway Golf drivers were the #1 choice of players on the PGA European Tour, where winner Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina used an ERC Fusion Driver to win the Open de Sevilla by two strokes.

Gonzalez, a Top-Flite(R) Staff Player, uses products from the Callaway Golf family of brands, including the ERC Fusion Driver, a Big Bertha(R) Fairway Wood, Ben Hogan(R) Apex(R) FTX(TM) Irons, an Odyssey(R) TriHot(R) #3 Putter, and a Strata(R) Tour Ace Golf Ball. Two players who tied for second at the event also used Callaway Golf driver technology -- the Great Big Bertha II 415 and ERC Fusion Drivers, which were the #1 and #2 models in play, respectively. Overall, 57% of all drivers in play at the Open de Sevilla were manufactured by Callaway Golf. Callaway Golf metal woods also were the top choice in fairway woods, and Odyssey Putters were #1 at the PGA European Tour event.

"We are encouraged by the increased usage of our products on the professional tours," said Ron Drapeau, Chairman and CEO of Callaway Golf. "The pros who have migrated to our golf club and golf ball technology are having good success, and we look forward to the trend continuing this season."

The winner of Takefuji Classic on the LPGA Tour used a full bag of Callaway Golf clubs -- including the Great Big Bertha II 415 Driver, Big Bertha Fairway Woods and Steelhead(R) X-16(R) Irons -- to battle through a seven-hole playoff and secure victory. The runner-up in the event also used an ERC Fusion Driver, Big Bertha Fairway Woods, Steelhead X-16 Irons and new Big Bertha Irons. Overall, Callaway Golf was the #1 choice in iron and wood technology at the event; 48.7% of all woods in play were Callaway Golf brand. On the Nationwide Tour, the winner used a Great Big Bertha II Driver to capture his first win. More than 26% of the Nationwide field -- 41 of 156 players -- had Callaway Golf drivers in their bags this past week.

Meanwhile, Callaway Golf balls continue their climb in popularity with tour players across the globe, led by the new HX(R) Tour Golf Ball. At the Open de Sevilla, 62 of 156 players teed up a Callaway Golf ball, giving the brand its highest usage numbers ever on the PGA European Tour. Callaway Golf balls also remained a strong #2 on the PGA, LPGA, Nationwide and Champions tours this past week.
