Taiwan Authorities Jail Golf Club Counterfeiters

CARLSBAD, CA., February 12, 2001 -- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) announced today that the Taiwanese government has handed out jail sentences to two persons found guilty of selling counterfeit Callaway Golf® clubs and components. The defendants, Liao Fa-Ching and Chou Yu-Mei, were convicted of violating two articles of the Republic of China’s Trademark Law after government investigators had raided their business, Tung Chi International Co. Ltd., last year and seized counterfeit Callaway Golf products. Liao and Chou were sentenced to two years and one and one-half years in jail, respectively.
