CARLSBAD, Calif., Jul 15, 2002 (BW SportsWire) -- Callaway Golf Company's (NYSE: ELY) clubs and balls were used in four wins this past weekend by professional golfers around the globe -- the Big Bertha(R) ERC(R) II Forged Titanium Driver was in play for two wins in Europe, the Hawk Eye(R) VFT(R) Pro Series Driver was in play for two wins in the United States. Callaway Golf Staff Professional Stewart Ginn's win at the Ford Senior Players Championship brought the Company's major championship golf ball victories to four of the nine professional major championships played in 2002. Two of the four winners also used the Company's new Callaway Golf(R) Forged Wedges, which launched worldwide today.

Ginn used the CTU 30(TM) golf ball to earn his first major championship, while three other professionals on the LPGA, European, and Senior European tours used Callaway Golf's HX(R) golf ball with next-generation aerodynamics in their wins. Yesterday, Ginn fired a 6-under 66 to win the Senior PGA Tour's fourth and final major of the year at the Ford Senior Players Championship. He finished at 14 under, earning his first Tour victory by one stroke over fellow Callaway Golf Staff Professional Jim Thorpe, who along with two other players finished one back at 13 under. Ginn birdied holes 10 thorough 13 on Sunday to take and hold the lead at 14. Callaway Golf Staff Professional Rachel Teske captured her second victory of the year at the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic, winning by two strokes to finish at 14-under with a final round 66. After a narrow miss with disqualification due to airline delays on Wednesday, Teske went 12-under par for the final two rounds, and took control to earn her sixth win in six years on the LPGA Tour, recording seven birdies and two bogeys on Sunday. At the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Eduardo Romero birdied the first playoff hole on Sunday to become the oldest Scottish Open champion at age 47, and the third-oldest winner in the history of the European Tour. Romero completed regulation play tied at 11-under par 273, then headed back to No. 18 for the first extra hole. Romero used his ERC II Driver to fire his HX Blue golf ball straight down the fairway and ultimately some 40 yards ahead of his opponent; then sent it to five feet with his wedge before he holed his putt. The win brought Romero to No. 3 on the PGA European Tour Volvo Order of Merit. The former Ryder Cup Captain took Europe to victory over the United States in 1995, won 13 times on the PGA European Tour, and represented Europe in eight Ryder Cups, but had not had a win since the Jersey Open in 1984. The Scot began the final day of play one ahead, then fended off a challenge to finish four shots ahead.
