CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2003--Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam yesterday added another LPGA scoring record to her rapidly expanding career total. In her overwhelming 9-stroke victory at the Mizuno Classic, Sorenstam posted a winning total of 24-under-par 192, bettering the previous LPGA record for a 54-hole tournament by one stroke and cruising to her sixth win of the year and her third straight Mizuno Classic victory. Sorenstam relied exclusively on Callaway Golf(R) equipment -- including the new ERC(R) Fusion(R) Driver and HX(R) Tour Golf Ball -- for the second three-peat of her career.

This marks the eighth victory so far for the ERC Fusion Driver across the world's professional tours, including seven wins over the last seven weeks, and the seventh victory for the HX Tour Golf Ball. The victory was Sorenstam's second since switching to the Company's new flagship driver and golf ball, and her first since being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame two weeks ago.

Sorenstam cited her new ERC Fusion Driver, which combines a forged titanium cup-face area with a precision-weighted composite body to produce explosive performance, as a key factor in the win. "I love the combination of the ERC Fusion Driver and the HX Tour Golf Ball," Sorenstam said. "I've gained about eight yards with that combination, and I've gotten straighter. Longer and straighter is a very good thing." Sorenstam missed only three fairways and five greens during the entire event, and she did not record a single three-putt. In addition to the HX Tour Golf Ball and ERC Fusion Driver, Sorenstam also used a Big Bertha(R) Steelhead(R) III 7-wood, Steelhead X-14(R) Irons, three prototype Callaway Golf wedges and an Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) 2-Ball Blade Putter, and wore shoes from the Callaway Golf Footwear Collection.

Sorenstam, who clinched Rolex(R) LPGA Player of the Year honors for the sixth time with the win, started the tournament with consecutive rounds of 63, and finished with a 66 for the record-breaking total of 24 under. Sorenstam is one of just three professional golfers in history to shoot 24 under par in three consecutive tournament rounds, joining PGA Tour pros John Cook and Mark Calcavecchia in the elite club. Fellow Callaway Golf Staff Professional Bruce Fleisher shot a lower winning score at a three-round professional event, but Fleisher's total of 191 at last year's RJR Championship on the Champions Tour came on a par-70 layout, while Sorenstam's was shot on the par-72 Seta Golf Course in Shiga, Japan.

Meanwhile, Callaway Golf Staff Professional Charles Howell III finished his season with a strong second-place showing at the PGA Tour Championship yesterday. Like Sorenstam, Howell benefited from the combination of an ERC Fusion Driver and the HX Tour Golf Ball, ranking fourth in driving distance at the event with a 297.5-yard average. Howell used 14 Callaway Golf clubs, including his ERC Fusion Driver, Steelhead III Strong 4-wood, Big Bertha 2-iron, Steelhead X-16(R) Pro Series Irons, three prototype Callaway Golf wedges and an Odyssey TriHot(R) 3 putter. Howell turned in an exceptional putting performance on the tricky greens of Champions Golf Club, finishing second overall with an average of 28.5 putts per round.
