CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2004--Coming off a four-week break, Callaway Golf (NYSE:ELY) Staff Professional Annika Sorenstam returned to competition at the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma and finished Sunday in typical form -- at No. 1. Sorenstam, 33, used the powerful pairing of the ERC(R) Fusion(R) Driver and HX(R) Tour Golf Ball to post her fifth LPGA Tour and seventh international victory of the season.

This latest win makes Sorenstam one of only three players in the 54-year history of the LPGA to earn at least five wins in five consecutive seasons; fellow World Golf Hall of Fame members Kathy Whitworth did so in 1965-69, as did Mickey Wright in 1960-64. Sorenstam's victory also moves her within two wins of Betsy Rawls, who is fifth on the all-time wins list. Sorenstam shot rounds of 66-68-70 at the three-round tournament at Cedar Ridge Country Club, finishing with a 9-under-par total of 204 and a four-stroke margin. She recorded only five bogeys over a total of 54 holes.

Sorenstam's win on Sunday with the ERC Fusion Driver and HX Tour Golf Ball marked the 17th worldwide professional win for the Fusion Technology and HEX Aerodynamics combination. As she has in every win of her professional career, Sorenstam relied upon equipment from the Callaway Golf family of brands, including a Big Bertha(R) Strong 4-wood and 7-wood, Steelhead(R) X-14(R) Irons, 48- and 54-degree Callaway Golf Forged+ Wedges and an Odyssey(R) White Hot(R) 2-Ball Blade Putter. She also wore Callaway Golf Footwear featuring the Big Bertha Spike.

"I've hit the ball really well this week," Sorenstam said. "I drove the ball well, just really solid, and I thought I had some great iron shots. The ball I play helps a lot there; it's so stable. I didn't miss a lot of greens all week. I'm very pleased, very happy the way I'm playing."

Sorenstam, who didn't touch a club for three weeks before practicing a bit last week, opened the tournament on Friday with a 66 on the par-71 track, thanks in part to five birdies over the last seven holes, and followed that up with a 68 on Saturday. She missed just five greens through the first two rounds and took a three-stroke advantage to the first tee on Sunday.

On the Champions Tour, Callaway Golf Staff Pro Jim Thorpe had his 9th top-10 finish of the season and tied for 2nd using the ERC Fusion Driver and HX Tour Golf Ball combination at the Kroger Classic.
